CO2 Laser Group

The carbon dioxide laser (CO2 Laser) is one of the earliest gas laser developed, and still one of the most useful. CO2 Lasers are high power continuous wave laser in infrared region with principal wavelength centering around 9.4 and 10.6 micrometers. Diode pumped solid state lasers (DPSSL) are the lasers of new generation. These are flexible in terms of power, repetition rate, pulse width and frequency. They can be used in any mode of operation i.e. in continuous wave, Q-switched or mode locking. Unlike their lamp pumped counterparts, DPSSL are more efficient, reliable, compact, better beam quality, low power consumption, air and thermoelectric cooled.

Recent activities

  • Up to 10 micron hole in a Tantalum foil.
  • Drilling of fine holes in the walls of a spinal needle used in Breath MAT and mass spectrometer probe.
